There are many different types of pool covers, each with their own specializations, advantages and drawbacks. Others emphasize on keeping the pool clean, others emphasize convenience, and others emphasize on safety. One such pool cover that focuses on safety is pool nets.

Pool nets are similar to the safety nets that are used in high flying circus acts. It functions the same way too; it catches people that might fall on it to prevent them from getting injured.

Pool drowning is one of the leading causes of accidental deaths in the United States. Unsupervised children can easily fall into open swimming pools without their parents or guardians even noticing. It can also happen very quickly. Even the short while a parent or guardian diverts their attention from the kids to do something else, say to answer the telephone or to go to the bathroom, may already be too long.

Considering that all types of pool cover essentially cover swimming pools, which mean all of it also, has the safety function of pool nets. What sets the pool net apart then? What makes it better in providing pool safety?

The primary reason would have to simply be because it is a net. Children will not mistake this for a solid surface as they might with solid pool covers therefore they will not even attempt going on it. Moreover, its holes are large enough to fit the limbs of children, but not their heads and bodies. In case they do fall in, they will not slide down to the center of the pool, which is what would happen if it was a solid cover instead.

Moreover, since solid pool covers can accumulate water on it, there is still that small risk of drowning.

Pool nets may not really do a good job in keeping dirt and debris out of the pool, unless the debris is the size of a child, but at least it gives you the assurance that your children will be safe from the pool. After all, cleaning a pool is much easier to get over with than losing a child.
